The Ogun State Police Command has paraded three suspected kidnappers specialized in child stealing, with recovery of three kids from the suspects in Abeokuta.
The suspects named Kate Njoku, Joy Okorie, both female, and Onyeka Joseph, were said to have abducted children and sold them outside the state.
According to the Command’s Spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi, who paraded the suspects before newsmen on Wednesday at the State Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, three kids were recovered from Anambra State where they have been enrolled in elementary school.
He further said, the suspects mode of operation “is to go into different neighborhood where they targeted children and rent an apartment” in an attempt to carryout their outrageous act.
This information is disclosed from the Police publicist, that the arrest of one Mary Paul, a principal suspect, who is undergoing trial in Ondo State, led to the arrest of three suspects.
“The suspects make friends with unsuspecting parents of the targeted children, gain their trust and sometimes become a child caregiver in the absence of the unsuspecting parents.
“In the process, the suspect having appreciable information about their victims will suddenly disappear with the wards of their unsuspecting neighbours without trace,” Oyeyemi said.
Oyeyemi who said the suspect would soon be prosecuted accordingly, urged the residents of the state to be vigilant “and not allow themselves to be preyed on cheaply.”
One of the suspects, Joy Okorie told newsmen that they sold each of the kid in the range of N300,000 and N450,000.
She further said, “I sold two boys N300,000 each. I was caught in my first of engaging in the crime and I regret my action.”
One of the kids, Olayinka Ayaji who was kidnapped alongside his sister, Ayobami in Sagamu, last year has been given new name, Bright.
While Olayinka was handed over to his parent, Oyeyemi said efforts are on to rescue his sister.
However, parents of the two other rescued kids are yet to be identified.
