In Ado Ekiti, a traditional ruler and a clergyman are among nine people sentenced to prison for open defecation.
CASEFILE gathered that their conviction follows their arraignment for various sanitation offences including non-availability of toilet facilities in their houses, non-availability of waste bins, and defecating in the open.
Magistrate Adeosun Abayomi was worried environmental nuisance caused by open defecation, and gave the convicts, the options of fines ranging from N5,000 to N15,000.
The Magistrate court also issued a bench warrant for the arrest of nine other persons who failed to appear in court for similar offence, while he ordered the police to present them for prosecution on the 25th of April, 2019.
