Jimoh Fathia Abiodun
The Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has denied speculation that, based on directive of Senator Buruji Kashamu, the Party worked for the All Progressives Congress , APC, Governorship candidate, Prince Dapo Abiodun in the Saturday March 9 election.
Dapo Abiodun won the election in which Senator Buruji Kashamu was the PDP candidate.
Immediately after the election, Kashamu sent a congratulatory message to Abiodun, fueling strong speculations that the party secretly worked for Abiodun.
But speaking to journalists in Abeokuta yesterday, the party’s State Deputy Chairman, Samson Bamgbose insisted “It (Speculation) is just a mere rumour.”
He then queried “How can somebody (Kashamu) dishing out millions and billions of naira to win an election agree to work for another candidate.”
“He (Kashamu) is a very liberal guy. Buruji is not the type of person to negotiate with any candidate. The one that should be faulted is Ladi Adebutu who signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, with Allied Peoples Movement, APM, Ladi Adebutu is the originator of the crisis within the party, not Buruji.”
His words “PDP is very much intact in Ogun. People say politics is a very dirty game, but I don’t see it like that. It depends on how you play it. It is a game of strategy. We cannot remain stagnant. There is nothing bad if I am congratulating the winner of the election. We have to move forward.”
He also denied rumours that the State Chairman, Dayo Bayo had resigned his position.
Answering a reporter’s question, Bamgbose said, “The only thing we are expecting from this government is good governance. Anything short of that is zero.”
Bamgbose spoke after the party’s executive meeting during which some people were elected to fill existing executive positions.
The positions included the state organising secretary, State woman leader, State Deputy woman leader and the State publicity secretary.
