The Lagos Island Local Government has flagged off additional COVID-19 vacinnation Centres within the Council area.
During the flag of ceremony, the Council Chairman, Hon. Prince Tijani Adetoyese Olusi said the aim is to bring the vaccine closer to the people.
He also encouraged the residents to take advantage of the existing centres and get vaccinated.
In his speech at the advocacy event which held on Thursday February 17, 2022 at Oluwole Car Park, Lagos Island, he said the initiative is part of the determination of his administration to make well-being of the people his priority.
“To our market women and men, we understand that time is money and so valuable to your trade, hence our decision to bring the vaccination points to your markets by taking this jab, you are not only protecting yourself but the entire community. As leaders and representatives of your various Associations, we urge you to also, take the message home as health ambassadors. The only way to get herd immunity and win this battle against COVID-19 virus is to get majority of our people vaccinated.”
“The Local Government has added five (5) vaccination locations to run concurrently at the following centres: Idunmota/Ago-tawa Central Mosque (inside Oluwole Car Park) Balogun CDA Hall CMS/Leventis Park Broad Street/Breadfruit Street. Please, look out for the Local Government banners at these locations and avail yourself of the opportunity,” he enjoined them.
While soliciting the support of people and corporate organisation to pay their taxes promptly, he advised them to pay directly to the council and avoid being swindle by unscrupulous elements.
“For the Local Government to achieve its set objectives for this year and beyond, we are counting on you to pay your rates, levies and fines promptly. It is not enough for you to pay, but to also ensure that you pay directly into the local government consolidate revenue account and obtain your receipts.”
“Be aware of fraudulent activities of some unscrupulous people who go about collecting cash claiming to work for the Local Government. Please, do not give cash to anyone, if you do, you would have wasted your hard earned money.”
“Monitoring team will come after you and if you do not have automated receipt to show, you will be made to pay again and prosecuted for wanting to steal government revenue.”

DELIVERED BY CHAIRMAN OF LAGOS ISLAND LOCAL GOVERNMENT, PRINCE TIJANI ADETOYESE OLUSI AT THE FLAG-OFF OF COVID-19 MASS VACCINATION AND MASK WEARING ADVOCACY HOLDEN AT OLUWOLE CAR PARK, MARTINS STREET, LAGOS ON THURSDAY 17TH FEBRUARY, 2022
It is my pleasure to welcome you all to this flag-off ceremony as part of our determination to make well-being of our people the core of our policy thrust. Our decision to flag-off the COVID-19 mass vaccination and mask wearing programme at this venue today is borne out of our resolve to raise the level of awareness, more importantly to bring vaccination point closer to our homes and markets.
The Local Government has added five (5) vaccination locations to run concurrently at the following centres: Idunmota/Ago-tawa Central Mosque (inside Oluwole Car Park) Balogun CDA Hall CMS/Leventis Park Broad Street/Breadfruit Street.
Please, look out for the Local Government banners at these locations and avail yourself of the opportunity.

It is erroneous to have the false believe that the virus has been eliminated until the battle won, we would not lower our guards.
I urge you all to make use of the existing Eleven (11) vaccination centers that may be closer to you. These locations are: Sura Primary Health Centre, Olowogbowo Primary Health Centre, City Hall/Massey Hospital, Onala PHC, Oba Adeyinka Oyekan PHC, Agarawu PHC, Araromi PHC, Island Maternity Hospital, Oluwole Car Park Apogbon under bridge Phase III PHC.
Today, LILG has over 13 million people traversing 8.9 sq. km geographical landmass on a daily basis between Monday to Friday, with a resident population that is close to 500,000 people, Lagos Island is Nigeria and Nigeria is Lagos Island being the premier Local Government in Nigeria.
This comes with a lot of challenges for quality and efficient service delivery. We are, therefore, resolute in ensuring the well-being of our people.
The need for COVID-19 vaccination has become very imminent for us.
Nobody should shy away from this health pandemic.
It is compulsory for everyone coming to the Lagos Island to observe the Mask wearing requirement which has been made mandatory for all.
The Executive Order 03 which I signed on 13th January, 2022 requiring mask wearing and vaccination in Lagos Island shall be effected to the letter.
I enjoin everybody to appropriately note this. The state of our PHC is not pleasing to us. We have therefore declared a health emergency in Lagos Island Local Government, working collaboratively with Lagos Island Local Government Legislative Council, our friends and developing partners and donors.
We shall in the next 90 days revitalise all our primary health facilities.
The Zenith PHC Isale Eko that was vandalised during the 2020 EndSARS Protest has been earmarked for total reconstruction and will be commissioned not later than July 2022.
I enjoin all well-meaning individuals and corporate bodies to team up with us to rebuild these health facilities. We cannot do it alone.
Permit me to also reiterate our resolve to clear that the Local Government of street trading, illegal and indiscriminating parking on our roads.
The Local Government has concluded plan to dedicate some locations in the Local Government as Street Trading Zone. These zones are the erstwhile Ajegboro truck park in Apongbon by inner Marina at Leventis Bus Stop; white sand in Oja Oba beside the Lagos State Driving Institute; as well as the old Jankara Market car park.
I invite street traders to take advantage of this gesture from the Local Government by picking up registration form, free of charge from the Environmental Sanitation Department of the Local Government between now and end of February 2022.
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, because of the premium we placed on Health of our people, I am using the opportunity of this event to also provide free medical outreach today, provision of Free face masks and hand sanitisers which we will endeavour to make available free from time to time as part of non-pharmaceutical COVID-19 preventions and protocols.
Today, we shall be offering free Hypertension and Diabetes screening; Eye check up and distribution of free Eye Glasses; HIV Screening; Cervical Cancer Screening; Free Treatment for minor ailments and distribution of drugs.
We solicit the support and cooperation of the private sector in this endeavour as part of their corporate service responsibilities for the benefit of our people.
