The Lagos State Government is moving towards reviewing the State Criminal Laws.
On Tuesday, it inaugurated a Committee to review ammendments to the State Criminal Laws of 2011.
The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo SAN, stated that it was resolved at the recently held meeting of the Criminal Justice Sector Reform Committee that a team should be constituted to review the State Criminal Laws to bring same in conformity with modern crime pattern.
He stated further that the 14-member committee is expected to conduct a thorough review of the Ciminal Laws, take necessary memoranda from relevant stakeholders and submit its recommendations within six (6) weeks from the time of its inauguration.
The Commissioner advised members of the committeea to devote their time, wealth of knowledge and professional experience to improve the Criminal Justice System in Lagos State.
The Chairman of the Committee, Justice Adenike Coker, while responding on behalf of the members gave assurances of their commitment to the task they have been saddled with.
Another member, Mr Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa SAN, while expressing their gratitude to the State Government for the opportunity to serve, pledged their readiness to do a good job.
The virtual inauguration ceremony had in attendance, the State Solicitor General/Permanent Secretary, Ms. Titilayo Shitta-Bey and all inaugurated members, namely: Hon. Justice Adenike Coker (Chairman), Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa SAN, Prof. Ayodele Atsenuwa, (Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Lagos), Mrs Adeyinke Adeyemi (Director of Public Prosecution), Mrs A.T Omoyele (Magistrate, Lagos State Judiciary).
Others are Dr. Babajide Martins (Director, Office of the Public Defender), Ms. Shakirat Kotun (Director, Community Service), Ms. Adetutu Oshinusi, Deputy Director, Public Prosecution, Mr. Joseph Otteh, (Director, Access to Justice), Mr. Jide Bodede (Managing Partner, Lawfields Solicitor & co). Ms. Iyabo Oshodi (SSA to HAG), Mr. Babajide Boye (Assistant Director, DPPs Office), Mrs. Tomi Bodude (Directorate of Legislative Drafting), Mrs. Bola Akinsete (Secretary).
