Nigeria will soon receive a £4.2million from the United Kingdom government, monies looted by former Delta state governor James Ibori, members of his family and friends.
This was disclosed on Tuesday by the British High Commission to Nigeria, Ms. Catriona Laing.
According to Ms. Laing, the money will be first tranche of such planned returns.
She explained that what is currently being returned were retrieved from friends and members of Ibori’s family.
According to her, Ibori’s case is complicated, hence the United Kingdom authorities were still working on the total actual amount involved in the case.
Laing spoke at the signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, held in Abuja between Nigeria and UK.
She gave the assurance on more of such recoveries from the Ibori’s case and said the looted fund would be returned to Nigeria in due course.
Meanwhile the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, after signing on behalf of the country, informed that President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that the returned loots be deployed to completion of the second Niger Bridge, the Lagos to Ibadan Expressway and the Abuja to Kano Expresseay projects.
