The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA Lagos Branch has unveiled a publication titled: Lagos Bar Journal.
The journal was unveiled at its Law Week 2021 themed: “Disruption, Innovation and The Bar,” on Monday by Chief Judge of Lagos State, Kazeem Alogba represented by Lagos State Judiciary Administration Judges (Lagos & Ikeja), Honourable Justices Oyekan Abdullahi and Oluwatoyin Ipaye.
Chairman of the Branch, Mr. Omoyemi Akangbe said about this year’s conference, “It is focused on training, retraining of lawyers and offering certification courses to our lawyers geared towards professional development, advancement and capability of our lawyers.”
He said with regards to the journal, the idea behind it is to promote scholarships, to give a platform for lawyers to publish articles, on review cases, and interrogate contemporary issues.
“It is a journal with International Standard Book Number, ISBN, which means this journal could be in any libraries of the world.”
While noting that his administration had lived up to its pledge, Akangbe expressed, “It is my fervent hope that the incoming and future administrations will continue the publishing of this journal.
“I hope it will go on until it gain reputation, scholarship output and become a reference point for researchers domestically and internationally.”
Joining him to launch the book, before going into the panel discussions sessions on various issues affecting the legal profession, lawyers, judges, litigants and the administration of justice system as a whole, Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN welcomed attendees and expressed optimism about the thrust of the event.
Honourable Onigbanjo said, “The conference will offer ideas and solutions to businesses particularly the legal industry to gain more relevance in a changing world, that would open up a world of opportunities for new market legal services.”
He said the above on the premise of challenges posed by the pandemic and how it brought disruption on the profession.
Those who spoke to issues at the event includes Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Dr. Mrs. Obiageli Ezekwesili, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, Prof. Akin Oyebode, Hon. Justice Lateefa Okunnu, Hon. Justice A.O Faji, Babajide Ogundipe, Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, Moray McLaren, Adeleke Alex-Adedipe, Theophilus Emuwa, David Halliwell.
Others are Dr. Myma Osagie-Belo, Asue Ighodalo, Charles Adeogun Phillips, Baba Alokolaro, Prof Fidelis Oditah, among others.
