The Lagos State Government has warned against the rejection of old naira notes. A statement by the State Commissioner of Information, Gbenga Omotoso says the governor is aware of the current hardship facing the residents. The statement said the State Government has joined the dispute at the Supreme Court, which adjourned the hearing of the matter till February 22. According to him, “When the matter first came up on February 8, the apex court said the old notes remained legal tender.” He said that position has not changed. Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja, on Monday sentenced a teacher, Chukwu Ndubuisi, 41, to life imprisonment for defiling a six-year-old pupil of Mind Builders School. The trial judge handed down the sentence to Ndubuisi for his act of forceful penetration on the minor. According to the judge, the fact, circumstances and quality of evidence against the defendant were compelling. The defendant committed the offence in June 2016.
