The All Progressives Congress Screening Committee for Edo State Governorship aspirants has disqualified the incumbent governor of the state Godwin Obaseki from contesting the party’s primaries. The committee said there were some discrepancies in the certificates he submitted. Governor Obaseki can appeal the committee’s decision. The governor had on Wednesday said he was asked by the screening committee if an official gazette which he signed doesn’t constitute an anti party activity. The gazette bans large gatherings making it impossible for direct primaries to hold.

Two armed robbers, Williams Umoh Udoh and Ubong Lazarus have been sentenced to death by Lagos State High Court, Igbosere on Wednesday. In a separate judgement Williams Udoh also bagged a-21 years prison term for rape at the scene of crime in Lagos. The convicts were earlier arraigned by the Lagos State Government on an amended five-count charge dated 29th June, 2017. Fifteen years old Timilehin Taiwo accused of killing her father’s friend Babatunde Ishola has been released from remand on Thursday. The Senior Secondary School 3 student was set free by a Magistrates Court presided over by Magistrate Philip Adebowale Ojo based on legal advice of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, that the case lacked ingredients of murder. Nigeria recorded a highest figure of 663 infection of Coronavirus confirmed cases in one day. A figure showed by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, revealed the total numbers of confirmed cases on Tuesday bringing the total figure to 13464. In its updated figures, on 9th June, 2020 at 11:45 p.m, the centre stated that there are 13464 COVID-19 confirmed cases in the country. So far the country has recorded 365 deaths and 4206 discharged.
