An Ogun State High Court sitting in Sagamu has upheld the nomination, selection and appointment of Oba Mosudi Adeyinka Onakade as the Alakenne of Ikenne.

The court in its judgement on June 3, 2020, also set aside the purported nomination and selection of Prince Oluwayomi Ademola Adeyiga by the Obara ruling house as the Alakenne-elect in 2018.

Justice C.C.Ogunsanya who delivered the judgement declared that the stool of the Alakenne of Ikenne was filled on the 25th of May, 2011 when the Ogun State Executive Council approved the nomination and selection of Oba Mosudi Adeyinka Onakade as the Alakenne of Ikenne.

The court further granted an order of perpetual injunction restraining the claimant Prince Ademola Adeyiga from parading himself as the Alakenne of Ikenne.

Justice Ogunsanya also held in his judgement that there was no vacancy for the stool of the Alakenne of Ikenne in 2018 as claimed by Prince Adeyiga stating that if there was any vacancy it was not for Prince Adeyiga and his family to proceed and nominate candidates and kingmaker to select Prince Adeyiga without recourse to the Secretary of Ikenne Local Government who is the proper person to do so if need be in 2018 to set in motion any announcement for nomination and selection process for the stool.

The presiding judge also upheld the prayer of Oba Adeyinka Onakade restraining Prince Adeyiga from parading himself as the Alakenne of Ikenne-elect.

Prince Adeyiga had filed a suit at the Sagamu high court against Oba Mosudi Adeyinka Onakade and the governor of Ogun State and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to contest and seek the cancellation of the selection and appointment of Oba Onakade as the Alakenne of Ikenne claiming that it illegal, null and void and for the court to set aside the nomination, selection and appointment of Oba Adeyinka Onakade.

Meanwhile, Oba Adeyinka Onakade, Alakenne of Ikenne has welcomed the judgement of the court and has “extended his hand of fellowship to all the good people of Ikenne”.

“There is no victor and vanquished in thus contest. I am humbly appealing to everybody to embrace love, peace and cooperation to move Ikenne forward”.
