President Donald Trump of the United States of America has been impeached by the US House for the second time for his role in last week’s deadly Capitol riot.
During the process, 10 Republicans joined their Democratic colleagues in voting in favour of the impeachment resolution.
They are: Rep. Dan Newhouse of Washington, Rep. John Katko of New York, Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler of Washington, Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, Rep. Fred Upton of Michigan, Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming.
Others are Rep. Peter Meijer of Michigan, Rep. Anthony Gonzalez of Ohio, Rep. Tom Rice of South Carolina, Rep. David Valadao of California.
In the House of Representatives of America’s dual Chamber Congress, 222 Democrats and 10 Republicans voted in favour of Trump’s impeachment for inciting an insurrection on 6th January 2021.
On the contrary, 197 Republicans voted against the impeachment, and the charges are now expected to go to the Senate for trial.
Recall that Trump refused to concede losing the November 2020 presidential election to Democrat Joe Biden, insisting on baseless claims of mass voter fraud.
Early this year, precisely on January 6th as Congress met to certify Biden’s victory, Trump addressed his supporters who later invaded the Capitol Hill seat of Congress smashing doors and windows and desecrating both hallowed Chambers.
About five people died in clashes between the rioters and security agents that tried to restrain them.
Trump had been initially impeached by the House in December 2019, but acquitted by the Senate on charges of soliciting aid from Ukraine leader for his re-election.
The latest impeachment comes just a week before the inauguration of the president elect Joe Biden as America’s 46th president after Trump’s turbulent one-term from November 9, 2016.
