The World Trade Organisation, WTO, has finally settled for a new Director-General, she is Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
She emerged as the Head of the WTO following the withdrawal of the South Korean candidate from the race and subsequent confirmation by the organisation on Monday.
Ngozi is the first woman and the first African to lead the international trade body.
The former United States of American President, Donald Trump had earlier kicked against her candidacy when he threw his support behind the South Korean candidate.
She will resume office come March 1st, 2021.
