The 38-year-old driver, Sunday Okodo, who allegedly drove on a one-way lane and knocked a police officer off a bridge into a canal, has been arraigned before a Magisterial Court in Bolade Oshodi, Lagos.
According to Police Spokesperson, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, the defendant was arraigned on a five count charge, bordering on driving against traffic, resisting arrest, reckless and dangerous driving, driving with invalid drivers licence and assault on a police officer.
He is however to be arraigned for a sixth charge of attempted murder of a police officer attached to Lagos State Traffic Management Authourity, LASTMA, Headquarter Enforcement Unit separately at a later date in the High Court with competent jurisdiction.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olajide Oduyoye disclosed this process of prosecution of the driver through a statement by Asst. Director, Public Affairs, Filade Olumide.
Though the defendant was not allowed to take a plea nor given a bail condition, he was subsequently remanded in the Nigeria Correctional Service centre in Badagry.
Further hearing has been adjourned till March 26, 2021.
