Some parents of students in the Lagos State Model Colleges are uncomfortable with the new N100,000 boarding fee per term announced by the Lagos State Government.

Before this new increment, parents of model college students attending the schools said they were paying the sum of N35,000 per term as a boarding fee, but the government has increased it to N100,000 per term from the second term of the 2024-2025 session.

Displeased by this development, many parents and students have expressed their frustrations while others are pleading with the appropriate authority to reconsider this position.

A parent told our reporter if this increase is allowed, the next increment would be higher.

The parent who would not want to be named argued: “N100,000 or N300,000 looking at the geometric rate of increment. We should be expecting N300,000 in the next increment once we allow this.”

Another pleaded, “Please pity me that can’t afford the hundred thousand of a thing.”

A parent with a few students explained that paying such sum for wards, is a tall order for them.

“N100,000 is not an issue here because N70,000 was deliberated and was inconclusive. So it is either they stand at N70,000 or bring it down,” another parent said.

“If agreement is made from the ongoing dialogue. It should be in black and white. Signed by the appropriate parties and let their be a memorandum serve to all the principals formally, that must take effect immediately on the Remita.”

“My daughter is still at home asking day and night when to resume?

Following a crucial meeting held between the State Parent Forum executives and some eminent personalities in Lagos on Tuesday, the parents have now shifted a schedule protest slated for today till a later day next week.

Model colleges in Lagos State include but are not limited to Lagos State Model Junior College Meiran, Lagos State Model College Igbokuta, Oriwu Model College Ikorodu, Lagos State Junior Model College Kankon Badagry, Government Junior College Ikorodu and Lagos State Civic Service Model College Igbogbo Ikorodu.
