MTN Nigeria Communications Plc has been issued a 14-day ultimatum to repair an allegedly damaged property in Ikorodu, Lagos State, and to pay ₦25 million in compensation over claims that debris from equipment used to build a telecommunications mast damaged the building’s roof.

The demand was contained in a letter dated October 20, 2026, and signed by Amenawon Addo, Head of Chambers (Administration), on behalf of Benson Enikuomehin & Co., solicitors to Pastor Sunday Enikuomehin, the owner and occupier of the property at situated at 1 and 3, Maja Street, Eyita, Ikorodu.
Addressed to the Managing Director of MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, the letter demanded immediate repairs to the roof, measures to prevent further debris from falling on the property, and compensation for the alleged damage and distress suffered by the owner.
The solicitors alleged that falling materials from equipment used in constructing the telecommunications mast had caused extensive damage to the property, resulting in roof leakages whenever it rains.
MTN Nigeria accused of negligence
According to the letter, Enikuomehin’s property had existed for more than 12 years before MTN Nigeria erected its telecommunications mast near the building in 2010.
The solicitors alleged that the mast, which they said belonged to, and was operated and maintained by, MTN Nigeria, had caused structural damage to the adjoining property through falling debris.
They claimed that the problem had been reported several times to the company’s security agent, who allegedly informed their client that complaints forwarded to the appropriate authorities within the company had been ignored.
The solicitors accused MTN Nigeria of negligence, arguing that the telecommunications company had a duty to ensure that its mast was safely constructed, regularly inspected and properly maintained to prevent harm to neighbouring properties.
They further expressed concern that the continuous falling of hard materials posed a danger to the building’s occupants, leaving the property owner apprehensive about their safety.
The letter stated that the situation had deprived the owner of the peace of mind and enjoyment he should ordinarily derive from his property.
Owner demands ₦25m compensation
Beyond the demand for repairs, Enikuomehin’s solicitors requested ₦25 million in compensation for what they described as the pain, anguish, apprehension and danger their client had endured over the years.
The compensation demand, according to the letter, also covers the repairs required to restore the allegedly damaged property.
The solicitors called on MTN Nigeria to take immediate steps to stop debris from falling on the roof and address the hazards they attributed to the telecommunications mast.
They maintained that the company’s activities had exposed their client and other occupants of the building to potential danger, urging MTN to act promptly to prevent further damage.
The letter emphasised that the alleged problem required urgent attention, particularly because of the potential consequences for the safety of people living in the property.
MTN gets 14-day legal ultimatum
Benson Enikuomehin & Co., gave MTN Nigeria 14 days from the receipt of the letter to address the demands.
The solicitors warned that failure, refusal or neglect to comply within the stipulated period would lead to legal action against the company without further correspondence.
They also threatened to escalate the matter to the appropriate regulatory agency responsible for supervising the telecommunications company.
