Funke Busari, Lagos
The controversy over the selection of the Oniru of Iru Land, Victoria Island Lagos is far from being over as the families are still at daggers drawn over the stool.
The latest this time around is the recent press statement by the family insisting that both Gbolahan Lawal and Hakeem Ajasa are not entitled to the stool of Oniru.
To this end, the Oniru family of Iruland kicked against an online publication not casefileng.com, calling on Mr. Gbolahan Lawal to vacate Oniru stool for Mr. Hakeem Ajasa.
According to the Family, both Gbolahan and Ajasa cannot claim right to the stool saying they have no blood link to the title of Oba Oniru.
This position was made known by Alhaji Surajudeen Durosimi, Head of Omowumi Abisogun, family, while speaking to newsmen on the premises of the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal.
He called on family and friends, Omowumi Abisogun family, to remain calm and toll the path of truth, as the case is before the court and the family has confidence in judiciary to dispense justice in the matter.
He said the duo of Gbolahan and Ajasa did not have blood relation to Oniru stool, stressing that it is a taboo for anybody who did not have blood link to Obaship stool to occupying such position in Yorubaland.
Durosimi further said that what those who are calling themselves Ewumi branch of Abisogun are doing could affect the case in court if not check. He is calling on parties to stop publications capable of affecting smooth judicial process.
“The only family entitle to the stool of Oba Oniru of Lagos is Omowumi Abisogun family. I was shocked when an online publication thepledge.ng, wrote that Gbolahan Lawal should vacate the stool of Oniru.
“The obvious fact is that both Gbolahan and Hakeem are creation of politicians for their selfish interest. They lack knowledge of who is entitled to the stool of Oniru land.
“I want to call on promoters of Gbolahan Lawal and Hakeem Ajasa, especially, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Babajide Sanwo-Olu to stop promoting taboo by imposing someone with no blood relation to the revered position of Oba Oniru kingdom.
“The Omowumi Abisogun family is calling on peaceful people of Lagos to join hands with us to put and end to an abomination that was created by politicians.
“At appropriate time, Omowumi Abisogun family will prove to court that anomalies created by politicians will be expose and we are going to get justice.
“We do not have any problem with Bola Tinubu or Sanwo-Olu, because we always see them as partners in building of greater Lagos. That is the reason why decency should prevail in emergence of Oniru.
“All claims build by Gbolahan Lawal and Hakeem Ajasa, including their supporters are bound to fail in the face of truth and justice. All members of Omowumi Abisogun family must not rest on their oars as victory is certain for them,” Durosimi said.
