The Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE has called on the National Assembly to remove obnoxious provisions in the two bills before it.
President of the guild, Mustapha Isha said the two bills, Nigerian Press Council Act and National Broadcasting Commission Act before the National Assembly, are designed to criminalize journalism practice in the country.
The guild in a signed statement said that the NPC and NBC should be independent and not under the supervision of the Minister of Information who is affiliated to a political party.
NGE said the attack on the media by political elites is designed to bully media organisations.
