The Police in Lagos says it has deployed a combined team of police and other security agents to quell the gang fight that erupted in Idumota and its environs on Thursday in Lagos Island.
CASEFILE gathered that two factional hoodlums popularly known as area boys clashed in the area around noon thereby forcing several traders at the commercial centre to close down their shops.
This Friday, videos of the clash had emerged online and went viral, with one of the clips showing a bloodied youth being carried away in a wheelbarrow.
According to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, normalcy had returned to the community.
The Police Spokesperson said, “The police have quelled the crisis. Sufficient facilities were deployed in the area immediately we received a distress call and normalcy was restored. As we speak, the place is calm. I can’t confirm if any arrest was made for now or the cause of the fight. Investigation is ongoing.”
An eyewitness said, “That was what led to the clash between the two factional members of NURTW were arguing on, where two persons were killed on Thursday night and two other persons on Friday. As a result of that we couldn’t come out nor open our shops, it was gunshots everywhere on the Island since Thursday.”
