The directive by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu approving four work-free days for workers to get their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, is not going down well with some people in the State.
One of them is the State Governorship Candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Chief Kunle Uthman.
In a statement made available to CASEFILE, Chief Uthman says the directive is extreme, unlawful and tantamount to abuse of power.
He wonders why the entire bureaucracy should shut down for four days.
“Why will an entire bureaucracy be shut down for four days in this manner, knowing as a fact that the GOVERNOR IS THE GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE OF A POLITICAL PARTY, the (APC) in the 2023 Gubernatorial elections,” he said.
He added, “There are legion of problems bedevilling the State that demand urgent government intervention. The roads are bad and unmotorable, insecurity of lives and properties, appallingly spiral inflation, incapability to enforce the ban on Okada riders, non impact of government on the people and many more problems demanding urgent bureaucratic intervention.”
Below is his statement
RE: SANWO-OLU APPROVES 4 WORK-FREE DAYS FOR WORKERS TO GET PVC:
The above directive by the Governor of Lagos State to declare four work-free days for workers to get their PVC is reported in major newspapers and dotting the media landscape, is an extreme directive, which is unlawful, unconstitutional and a directive tantamount to abuse of power and lack of basic understanding of Constitutional Law.
Why will an entire bureaucracy be shut down for four days in this manner, knowing as a fact that the GOVERNOR IS THE GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE OF A POLITICAL PARTY, the (APC) in the 2023 Gubernatorial elections.
Here lies the extreme desperation of His Excellency, Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s poor understanding of dynamics of politics. He doesn’t seem to understand or appreciate the basic rule of FAIR PLAY in an election of which he is a participant and his Political Party (APC) have presented candidates for the Presidential, Senate, House of Representatives and Houses of Assembly elections.
There are legion of problems bedevilling the State that demand urgent government intervention. The roads are bad and unmotorable, insecurity of lives and properties, appallingly spiral inflation, incapability to enforce the ban on Okada riders, non impact of government on the people and many more problems demanding urgent bureaucratic intervention.
Our “dear” Governor is surreptitiously playing the Ostrich by ignoring all these problems.
He has now assumed the position of INEC and declaring FOUR WORK FREE DAYS in excess of his Constitutional powers.
Our dear Lagos State, “Centre of Excellence” has become a Banana Republic and our lives day-by-day has become an experiment in the hands of an excessive Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who ought to know the extent of his powers. SAD!
