The president-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Mr. Y.C Maikyau, SAN has promised to build on the past legacies as he expressed gratitude to lawyers who gave him the opportunity to lead the bar for the next two years.
Maikyau disclosed this at the ongoing 62nd Annual Conference of the Association holding in Lagos, during the plenary on NBA In Transition: Conversation With The NBA Presidents.
Maikyau promised to uphold the legacy built by his predecessors and most importantly the Olumide Akpata led administration and to build on it.
He also promised members of the association a better and improved welfare package.
The incoming president promised to uphold and build on decision making processes, create employment opportunities for young lawyers, improve and encourage health insurance for all members, deal with sexual harassment for female lawyers.
He said that his administration will be fair to all and treat everyone equally no matter who the person is.
Maikyau thanked his predecessors for maintaining transparency in justice delivery and pledged to build on it.
Earlier, the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Akpata has disclosed that 62,000 lawyers paid their practicing fee in year 2022 while 38,000 members participated in their election held recently.
Akpata said that his administration had an effective Secretariat, better remuneration, and thereby urged the incoming president to continue with the set legacy.
He however stated that his administration did not measure up to expectation in the area of stamp and seals for lawyers due to lack of effective distribution as a result of weak secretariat.
He also urged members to participate in the affairs of the association and boldly lay their complaints when necessary.
