Oluranti Badejo, a 51-year-old man, has been arrested in connection with the death of his wife, Folasade Badejo.
CASEFILE gathered that he allegedly killed his wife by beating her to death during a fight over tuition fees for their children.
Speaking on the incident, the Ogun State Police Command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, explained the circumstance that led to the arrest of the suspect by men of Ogun State Police Command on the 12th of October 2022.
The Spokesperson said the suspect was reported at the station by the younger sister of the deceased who said her elder sister’s daughter told her that her mother has been beaten to death by her husband.
The Divisional Police Officer, Mowe division, SP Folake Afeniforo, was said to have quickly dispatched the divisional detectives to the scene at No 7, Madam Felicia Street, Orimerunmu, Mowe, where the suspect was arrested.
The lifeless body of the victim was evacuated to the mortuary in Shagamu for post mortem examination, police say.
According to preliminary investigation the man was said to have strangled the deceased during a scuffle as a result of minor disagreement.
The statement added, “Having realised that he has killed his wife, the suspect used hot iron to burn parts of the body of the deceased, so as to look as if she was electrocuted. But unfortunately for him, their 8 years old daughter was there and witnessed the whole thing. It was the daughter who testified seeing her father strangulating her deceased mother to death.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be taken to Homicide Section of the state Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
