The Nigerian Guild of Editors has called on the Zamfara State Government to immediately lift the ban on four shut broadcast stations in the state.
The editors say there was no reason for them to have been closed down in the first place.
The NGE in a statement signed by its President, Mustapha Isah says the primary concern is the illegal and unconstitutional action of the State against the affected stations for carrying out their constitutional duties of reporting events keeping the citizens informed of political developments.
He said they should have been accused of unprofessional misconduct if they didn’t cover that rally.
Saying further that the action of the Zamfara State Government should be condemned in its entirety because it is a dangerous signal to what awaits the media ahead of the 2023 general elections.
