The Labour Party, LP is calling for the arrest and prosecution of the Iyaloja General, Mrs. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo over cohesion of the traders to support the candidature of the All Progressive Congress Presidential Candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, her father.
A video went viral over the weeks when shops of traders who failed to attend the Women’s rally in support of Tinubu’s ambition were shut.
The affected traders complained that they were being forced to pay the the sum of N5,000 (five thousand naira) as fine.
A statement signed by the Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Arabambi Abayomi Oluwafemi says the action is not in consonant with the tenets of democracy.
According to him, every Nigerian is entitled to associate with any political party of their choice
Quoting the law, Comrade Arabambi said the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria gaurantee the freedom of association wondering when it became an offence for Nigerians to make personal political decision.
“Section 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 provides as follows: “Every person shall be entitled to assembly freely and associate with other persons, and in particular he may form or belong to any political party, trade union or any association for the protection of his interests.”
“Comrade Arabambi says the urgent call become necessary going by the recurring attacks on members of Labour Party and their Offices in Lagos.
He recalled the attack on the Labour Party Offices in Ajegunle and other areas in Lagos.
This includes but not limited to the assault on members of the party in Oshodi area of Lagos.
According to him, the State Police Command has refused to act on its clarion calls to create an enabling environment for all politicians in Lagos irrespective of their party’s affiliation.
Similarly, the party is drawing attention of the President and Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces to the act of brigandage in Delta State and want President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a State of Emergency before it is too late, saying a stich in time saves nine.
He said the party is worried that his members are being subjected to daily attacks by the agents of the PDP in Delta State.
Comrade Arabambi said if this goes unchecked it is capable of causing the breakdown of law and order and a full recipe for anarchy capable of truncating the 2023 General Election.
He however appealed to its members to continue in a peaceful manner and remain law-abiding adding that the party will do all legally possible to protect their rights.
He however reminded the Vice Presidential Candidate of the PDP to focus his attention on the real enemies within his party and stop pursuing perceived enemies.
