A Police Investigator, Mohammed Victor gave corroborating evidence on a 22-year-old labourer, Olanrewaju Opeyemi, who alledgedly robbed a commercial sex worker, Blessing Okoro of N2000, and caused her grievous harm by stabbing her severally at a Lagos hotel.
This evidence was given by a police officer formerly attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, on Thursday before Justice Oyindamola Ogala of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja.
The prosecution witness said the conclusion of his investigation on Olarewaju Opeyemi was a case of conspiracy, attempted robbery and causing grievous harm on Blessing Okoro.
He said this while being led in evidence by State Counsel Abike Oluwasanmi.
The defendant ran into trouble on Thursday 14 of August 2020 at about 20:00 hours, when he approached a commercial sex worker, Blessing Okoro at Intenso Hotel at Agboju area.
The prosecutor said the defendant attacked the woman with a knife at 2:00am on April 14, 2020 at Intendo Hotel, Agboju, Lagos.
“Opeyemi alongside others who are at large, conspired to commit robbery and while armed with a knife, he robbed one Ms Blessing Okoro of N2,000.
“He also grievously harmed Okoro by cutting her with a knife and inflicted serious injuries on her.
He was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery and causing grievous harm.
Recall that the Opeyemi a primary school drop out from Oyo town was remanded in prison sometime in 2021 for attacking an hairdresser, Miss Blessing Okoro, who claimed she “hustle” at Intendo Hotel, Agboju, Lagos.
The woman had said that she was at the said hotel when one boy approached her for a short rest at the rate of N1,500 and they both left for her room.
According to her,”I was pulling my dress when the said boy suddenly held my head to the wall and started cutting me with a jack knife. And he was stronger than me. So, I was shouting and before people could come to my rescue, I had to pretend I’m dead. That was when people around the hotel came into my room and got him arrested and discovered he had already stole the sum of N2,000 from my table. That was how he was taken to Satellite Police division Amuwo Lagos”.
The suspect is facing a three-count charge preferred against him. He was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery and causing grievous harm.
The offences violate Sections 245, 297 and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The judge adjourned till November 24, 2022 for continuation of trial.
