A member, House of Representatives representing Port Harcourt II Federal Constituency, Hon. Chinyere Igwe has been arrested for alleged money laundering by the Police Officers from Rivers State Command.
The lawmaker was arrested in possession of a cash sum of 498,100 United States Dollar inside a bag in his car, with a list for distribution of the money, according to SP. Grace Iringe-Koko, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer.
According to the Spokesperson, the lawmaker was arrested on Friday by officers deployed to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Headquarters Aba Road.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Inspector General on Election, AIG Abutu Yaro, has ordered swift interrogation and arraignment in court of the suspect.
The Command urges all contestants and political parties to comply strictly with provisions of the Electoral Act and other relevant laws.
