A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Monday ordered Woman Inspector Mercy Douglas to appear in the ongoing trial of self acclaimed prophet, Olushola Akinsipe over alledged defilement of a-13-year-old visually-impaired girl.
Justice Hakeem Oshodi made the order following non-appearance of the officer attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, to give evidence as the last prosecution witness in the matter.
The defendant standing trial was said to have committed the act when the minor was taken to him for a spiritual cleansing over witchcraft.
The State prosecution counsel, O.O Azeez, at the scheduled continuation of trial informed the court, “Our last witness is supposed to be Mercy Douglas, but she is not in court today, we reached out to her but she did not respond.
Subsequently, the prosecution witness urged the court to summon the witness to court in the suit No. ID/14716C/21.
The Defence Counsel, Mr. Kolade Obafemi, was present at the proceeding.
”I hereby issue the witness summon,” the
the judge said.
However, Justice Oshodi adjourned the case until May 10 for continuation of trial.
