On August 4, 2024, Onicha-Ugbo in Delta State, Nigeria, played host to the 6th edition of the “Back to School” program for orphans and less privileged organised by The Odita Sunday Charity Foundation, TOSCF.

The event, held at the community centre, was graced by numerous families and supporters, who gathered to witness the Foundation’s continued efforts to assist less privileged students.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Odita Sunday-Udemaguna, the founder of TOSCF, expressed gratitude to all attendees and supporters. Reflecting on the success of previous editions held from 2016 to 2020, he acknowledged the divine guidance that has sustained the program over the years.

“We are deeply appreciative and grateful to the Almighty God for making it possible for us to keep faith with this laudable project,” he said.

    Back to School initiative

The “Back to School” initiative was intentionally scheduled ahead of the new academic year to ease the burden on parents who struggle to cover school fees and purchase necessary supplies.

Mr. Sunday-Udemaguna recounted how the idea for the program was inspired by his late father, whom he consulted before starting the initiative. His father, known for his generosity, encouraged him to help those in need.

    Over 500 beneficiaries

Since its inception, the program has provided essential school materials to over 500 students from various communities in Delta North, without any political or financial motivations.

The Foundation operates solely on Mr. Sunday-Udemaguna’s personal funds, with no support from government grants or donor agencies.

Mr. Sunday-Udemaguna used the occasion to call on the community to embrace the Foundation’s ethos: “Don’t give to get, give to inspire.”

He urged everyone to adopt a selfless approach to giving, emphasising that even small contributions can make a significant impact.

“The little we give today can be the miracle somebody is expecting to launch them into greatness,” he added.

As the event concluded, Mr. Sunday-Udemaguna warmly welcomed the children and their parents, expressing his heartfelt thanks for their support. He concluded with a prayer for continued blessings for all who contribute to the cause.

The event marked another successful chapter in TOSCF’s ongoing mission to support education and uplift the less privileged in society.
