The media office of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has revealed an alleged scheme by certain individuals to frame him as a sponsor of the #EndBadGovernance protests.
According to a statement issued by Ohiare Michael from the ex-governor’s media team, the plan is part of a broader effort to undermine Bello’s reputation and destabilise the nation.
The statement firmly rejected any claims that Bello is involved in activities aimed at disrupting national peace and stability. It criticised Nigerian journalist Jackson Ude for spreading what it described as false accusations, emphasising that such claims are reckless and malicious.
The media office defended Bello’s record, highlighting his role in resolving conflicts and supporting national unity. It cited his successful mediation between Northern and Southern food transporters and his legal victory against the Naira Redesign Policy as examples of his commitment to the country.
Additionally, the statement praised Bello’s efforts in mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 Presidential Poll.
Recent social media posts by Ude, which allege Bello’s involvement in a plot to instigate a military coup, were described as further attempts to create discord between Bello and President Tinubu. The media office accused Ude of being connected to criminal interests and operating a network of fake news purveyors.
The statement called for an investigation by the Police, Department of State Services, and other relevant agencies into Ude’s activities. It emphasised that the matter is of national security importance and urged the public to disregard Ude’s claims.
The media office reiterated Bello’s dedication to supporting President Tinubu and contributing to Nigeria’s development.
The statement concluded by expressing confidence in the Nigerian security agencies to address the issue and urged the public to support the current administration’s efforts to restore national greatness.
