The Director of the National Orientation Agency, NOA in Sokoto, Babangida Kurfi, is giving an update on the agency’s latest activities, particularly the introduction of the National Values Charter, NVC.
The NVC is designed to promote national values, unity, and cohesion among Nigerians.
It consists of two main components: the seven core promises made by Nigeria’s elected leaders and the seven citizen codes outlining the commitments of citizens to the Nigerian state.
Kurfi highlighted that the seven core promises encompass equality, democracy, entrepreneurship, peace, inclusivity, freedom, and meritocracy, while the seven citizen commitments include discipline, duty of care, tolerance, leadership, accountability, environmental awareness, and resilience.
“Our nation faces various challenges, including a struggling economy, insecurity in many regions, decaying infrastructure, and wavering moral values. It is crucial to inspire our citizens, remind them of our shared values and aspirations, and unite them under a common banner. This banner symbolises our collective strength and resilience, represented by our new national anthem,” the Director said.
According to him, the goal of the NVC is to address the challenges facing the nation and inspire citizens to uphold shared values and aspirations.
To achieve this, a sensitisation campaign will be carried out across the state and its 23 local government areas.
