    Emmanuel Buchi Docked For Rape, Pleads Not Guilty

    A man, Buchi Emmanuel standing trial for alleged rape has been re-arraigned for having sexual intercourse with a 37-year-old woman without her consent.

    The incident reportedly took place at Green Springs School, Awoyaya, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

    He was re-arraigned before Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Sexual Offences Court, Ikeja on Tuesday.

    Rape, other allegations

    The defendant was charged to court by the Lagos State Government following a four-count charge of rape, forcing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, sexual assault by penetration and assault occasioning harm.

    According to the State Prosecution Counsel, Babajide Boye, the defendant committed the offence contrary to Sections 260, 265, 261 and  173 of the Criminal Law, Ch. C.17 Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015. 

    The charge read, Buchi Emmanuel (M) on or about the 27th of November 2021 at Green Springs School, Awoyaya, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos in the Ikeja Judicial Division raped one Imonita Okeoghene (F) aged 37 years old by having sexual intercourse without her consent. 

    “Buchi Emmanuel (M) on or about the 27th of November, 2021 at Green Springs School, Awoyaya, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos in the Ikeja Judicial Division caused one Imonita Okeoghene (F) aged 37 years old to engage in sexual activity with you without her consent. 

    “Buchi Emmanuel (M) on or about the 27th of November, 2021 at Green Springs School, Awoyaya, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos in the Ikeja Judicial Division did sexually assault one Imonita Okeoghene (F) aged 37 years old by penetrating her vagina with your penis. 

    “Buchi Emmanuel (M) on or about the 27th of November, 2021 at Green Springs School, Awoyaya, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos in the Ikeja Judicial Division did sexually assault one Imonita Okeoghene (F) aged 37 years old by penetrating her vagina with your penis. 

    “Buchi Emmanuel (M) on or about the 27th of November, 2021 at Green Springs School, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos in the Ikeja Judicial Division did twist the leg of one Imonita Okeoghene (F) aged 37 years old and inflicted harm on her leg in order while having unlawful sexual intercourse with her.”

    Court fixes November 11

    When the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty to all counts.

    After that, Justice Oshodi adjourned till November 11, 2024, for continuation of the trial.
