The suspects were identified as Favour Sunday, 25, Ikot Moses, 28, Dickson Ighobue Harrison, 35, Joshua Adedamola, 27, and Daniel Jonathan, 26.

The victim, a taxi driver, narrated how three men booked his services before one of them allegedly brandished a locally made pistol, forced him out of the car, and escaped with his black Toyota Corolla.

The incident occurred on August 1, 2025, in the Jakande, Lekki area of Lagos when the suspects ordered his service along Platinum Way, Jakande, boarded his vehicle for a supposed trip.

During the journey, one of the suspects allegedly pointed a locally made pistol at him, forcefully removed him from the car, and fled with the vehicle.

According to the Lagos State Police Command, detectives promptly launched an investigation and initiated intelligence-led operations that led to their arrests.

Further investigation revealed that the stolen vehicle was sold for a sum of ₦500,000 to a 40-year-old man, Wasiu Arinola, who later dismantled the car and sold the parts separately.

Arinola was later arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State, where he was traced by the detectives. Efforts are ongoing to recover the locally made pistol used in the robbery and to trace other vehicles disposed off by the syndicate.

The Police also confirmed that all suspects are currently in custody and will be prosecuted once investigations are concluded.

Lagos Police reassure residents of safety

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reassured residents and visitors, “The Command will continue to prioritise the safety and security of all residents and visitors within Lagos. We urge the public to provide useful information to the Police for swift response.”
