In a chilling development, Yusuf Ismail, the alleged murder suspect, appeared before Justice Oyindamola Ogala at the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja. He faces charges in connection with the tragic death of Ibironke Samuel Oluwapelunmi, a case that has gripped the community with its brutality.

    Alleged Murder

The Lagos State Government brought a two-count indictment against Ismail, accusing him of conspiracy to commit murder and murder itself. These grave offenses allegedly violate Section 223 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, according to State Prosecution Counsel Oladimeji Azeez.

Defence lawyer P.E. Ogiogor represented Ismail during the tense courtroom proceedings. As the charges were read aloud by the registrar, the alleged murder suspect firmly pleaded not guilty, setting the stage for a high-stakes trial.

Casefileng unpacks the Alleged Murder Charges

The first count accuses Yusuf Ismail and unidentified accomplices of conspiring to kill Ibironke Samuel Oluwapelunmi. Prosecutors claim this plot unfolded around 10:00 p.m. on November 18, 2023, along Ajiliti Road in Mile 12, within the Ikeja Judicial Division.

The second count goes further, alleging that Ismail and his co-conspirators (still at large) unlawfully caused Oluwapelunmi’s death at the same time and location. This alleged murder case strikes at the heart of public safety concerns in Lagos.

    Next Steps in the Trial

Following the plea, Prosecutor Azeez requested a swift trial date to deliver justice. Justice Ogala granted the motion, postponing the case to January 29, 2026, to kick off the proceedings. Until then, Ismail remains in custody as the alleged murder case unfolds.

This ongoing saga underscores the relentless pursuit of accountability in Lagos’s justice system. Stay tuned for updates on this compelling alleged murder investigation.
