The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday says it has neutralised a threat to schools in Ikeja, following an intelligence-led operation by the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, CP Jimoh Moshood Olohundare.

According to SP Abimbola Adebisi, the
Police Public Relations Officer, the threat to some schools was reported on Tuesday, January 21, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m., when the Human Resources Manager and Chief Security Officer of two prominent private schools separately alerted the Ikeja Divisional Headquartres.
They disclosed receiving distress WhatsApp messages from the same unknown number, raising concerns over the safety of students and staff.
Upon receipt of the reports, the Police boss immediately mobilised operational assets and personally led the response to the affected school premises.
EOD-CBRN Sweep declares schools safe
Addressing the situation, the Commissioner deployed specialised teams, including experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear EOD-CBRN unit, the Rapid Response Squad RRS, and other tactical formations.
A comprehensive sweep of classrooms, administrative offices, halls, playgrounds, and surrounding areas was conducted to rule out the presence of Improvised Explosive Devices or other hazardous materials.
The exercise yielded no explosive or suspicious device, and the schools were declared safe to continue academic and administrative activities, effectively neutralising the threat to schools in Ikeja.
Investigation intensified, security beef up
CP Jimoh ordered an intensified investigation to trace, identify, and apprehend the sender(s) of the distress messages with a view to prosecuting them in accordance with the law.
Combined teams of police personnel have also been deployed on a permanent basis to the affected schools to ensure round-the-clock protection of students, staff, and facilities.
The Lagos State Police Command reassured parents, guardians, school authorities, and the general public of its proactive stance in maintaining peace and public order, urging continued vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious activities through designated emergency lines.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to safety across the state, stressing that the threat to schools in Ikeja has been effectively contained.
