The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has decorated Olohundare Moshood Jimoh with his new rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, charging him to deploy his operational experience and professionalism to strengthen policing nationwide.

At the decoration ceremony held at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, the IGP described Jimoh’s elevation as well deserved, noting that his track record of disciplined leadership and measurable operational results, particularly during his tenure in Lagos, distinguished him for higher responsibility.

“Your promotion reflects the confidence of the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force in your capacity to deliver,” the IGP said, urging the senior officer to sustain his commitment to service, integrity and strategic policing.

Jimoh’s elevation follows a widely acknowledged period of operational consolidation in Lagos State Policing, where he played a central role in strengthening crime prevention and control architecture in one of Africa’s most complex urban security environments.

Under his leadership, the command intensified intelligence-led operations against armed robbery syndicates, cult groups and traffic corridor criminals, leading to multiple arrests and disruption of organised criminal cells across high-risk divisions.

He also supervised coordinated raids on black spots and criminal hideouts, reinforcing police visibility and restoring public confidence in several communities previously troubled by violent crimes.

In addition, the command recorded improvements in rapid-response policing through strengthened patrol deployments, enhanced coordination among tactical units like the Eko Strike Force he established, and closer collaboration with sister security agencies. These measures contributed to quicker incident containment across critical parts of the state.

Another hallmark of Jimoh’s stewardship in Lagos was the emphasis on community engagement and professional conduct among officers and men. The command deepened partnerships with traditional rulers, market associations, youth leaders and neighbourhood security groups, helping to improve intelligence flow and early-warning responses.

He also promoted internal discipline and accountability mechanisms within the command, steps widely credited with improving operational efficiency and reinforcing public trust in policing structures.

Security stakeholders in Lagos frequently pointed to the stabilisation of several flashpoints and sustained pressure on criminal networks as outcomes of coordinated policing strategies implemented during the period.

Administratively, Jimoh undertook several infrastructural projects including the state-of-the-art Conference Hall under construction at the command headquarters, the face-lift of police facilities at Oduduwa, the establishment of seven police divisions and the historic inauguration of the Lagos Police Command Band, among others.

Decorating the newly promoted officer, the IGP expressed confidence that Jimoh would bring the same energy, strategic focus and people-centred policing approach to the Zone 2 Police Command, where he will oversee Lagos and Ogun states.
