In a remarkably brief period, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, has demonstrated proactive leadership, strategic foresight, and a strong commitment to reforming the Nigeria Police Force.

His early actions reflect a clear vision aimed at strengthening security architecture, boosting personnel morale, and repositioning the Force for greater efficiency.

Below are six notable achievements that underscore his impactful start:

    1. Swift Move Towards State Policing Reform
Recognizing the urgent need for a more decentralized and responsive policing system, IGP Disu promptly constituted a high-level committee to examine the feasibility and framework for the establishment of state police. This decisive step signals his willingness to embrace progressive reforms that align with contemporary security realities in Nigeria.
    2. Strategic Security Intervention in Kwara State
In a bold show of leadership, the IGP personally led an operational visit to Kwara State at a time when certain areas were under severe threat from terrorist activities. His on-the-ground assessment and subsequent tactical deployments have since restored a measure of calm and stability, reinforcing public confidence in the capacity of the police to respond effectively to security challenges.
    3. Strengthening Welfare Through Insurance Payments
Demonstrating compassion and responsibility towards fallen heroes, IGP Disu approved and facilitated the disbursement of over ₦2 billion in insurance benefits to the families of slain police officers. This unprecedented gesture will boost the morale of serving officers, assuring them that their sacrifices will not be forgotten.
    4. Inclusive Leadership and Strategic Reorganization
As part of efforts to reposition the Force, the IGP carried out a comprehensive reorganization of the police management team. Notably, he championed gender inclusivity by facilitating the promotion of a qualified female officer to the prestigious rank of Deputy Inspector-General (DIG), aligning with global best practices on affirmative action and gender representation in leadership.
    5. Leadership Retreat for Strategic Transformation
Understanding the importance of collaboration and forward-thinking leadership, IGP Disu convened a high-level retreat for Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs) and Assistant Inspectors-General (AIGs). The retreat provided a platform for robust discussions, idea exchange, and strategic planning aimed at driving innovation and charting a new course for the Nigeria Police Force.
    6. At the height of the recent bomb blast in Maiduguri, IGP Tunji Disu demonstrated exemplary leadership by swiftly arriving at the scene, conducting an on-the-spot assessment of the situation, and proceeding to the hospital to personally visit and empathize with the injured residents. His prompt response not only boosted public confidence but also underscored his commitment to proactive and compassionate policing.
