The Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Federal Capital Territory, FCT Council has named Assistant Inspector-General of Police Olohundare Moshood Jimoh its Crime Fighter of the Year, crowning a remarkable run of back-to-back national recognition for the Zone 2 Command boss whose intelligence-driven approach has reshaped security operations across Lagos and Ogun states.

The award was presented at the council’s annual Press Week in Abuja, attended by NUJ President Comrade Alhassan Yahaya Abdul and immediate past President, Chris Isiguzo.

It follows AIG Jimoh’s 2025 Security Officer of the Year honour at the Security and Emergency Management Awards earlier this year, cementing his standing as one of Nigeria’s most decorated active-duty police commanders.

Jimoh, a former Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, was cited for spearheading intelligence-gathering operations, targeted surveillance and rapid-response interventions that significantly reduced violent crime across his zone of command.

Accepting the award, Jimoh struck a conciliatory note toward the press, calling journalists indispensable partners rather than institutional adversaries. “Constructive criticism often serves as a wake-up call for institutions and public officers,” he said, drawing on his background as a former Force Public Relations Officer to underscore the police’s commitment to media engagement.

He reaffirmed that the Nigeria Police Force, under Inspector-General Olatunji Rilwan Disu, remains committed to community-oriented, people-centred policing.

The event also saw former Inspector-General Sir Mike Okiro conferred with NUJ Patron status. Other honourees included Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede, Leadership Newspapers Editor-in-Chief Azubuike Ishiekwene, and Arise TV journalist Sumner Sambo.

NUJ FCT Council Chairman Grace Ike used the occasion to call for responsible journalism and stronger media collaboration to counter disinformation ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that fake news poses a growing threat to democratic stability.
