The National Orientation Agency, NOA, has urged Nigerians to properly observe the national flag during the three-day mourning period declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the NAF crash that claimed the lives of Nigerian Air Force, NAF personnel in Igbokoda, Ondo State.

The Director-General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, also condoled with the Nigerian Air Force and families of the fallen officers, describing the NAF crash as a painful moment for the nation and commending the personnel for their courage, discipline, patriotism and commitment to national service.
NOA backs flag observance
Issa-Onilu said the agency would intensify efforts to promote proper observance of the national flag during the mourning period, in line with the President’s directive that the flag be flown at half-mast.
He described the national flag as a powerful symbol of Nigeria’s sovereignty, unity and shared identity, urging citizens to observe the mourning period with the dignity and respect befitting the sacrifice of the fallen personnel.
According to him, the NAF crash and the loss of the personnel should remind Nigerians of the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces in the service of the country.
Issa-Onilu condoles NAF families
The NOA Director-General commiserated with the Chief of the Air Staff, officers and personnel of the Nigerian Air Force, assuring them of the agency’s solidarity as they mourn their colleagues who paid the supreme price in national service.
He also extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased personnel, acknowledging the pain of losing loved ones who were serving the country and praying that God would grant them strength and comfort during the difficult period.
Issa-Onilu said the dedication of the fallen personnel to protecting the nation remained worthy of honour and remembrance, adding that their sacrifice would not be forgotten.
NOA calls for patriotism
The NOA DG called on Nigerians to use the period of national mourning to reflect on the sacrifices of the Armed Forces and the responsibility of citizens to uphold patriotism, national unity and respect for the symbols of the country.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed personnel and for God to grant their families, colleagues and the entire Nigerian Air Force the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Issa-Onilu reaffirmed NOA’s commitment to promoting national values, civic responsibility and proper respect for national symbols across the country, particularly as Nigerians observe the mourning period following the NAF crash.
