Lagos Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alabi on Saturday held another interactive session with crime correspondents in Lagos on the heels of 231 days in office giving his scorecards to Lagosians.

While reeling out his achievements, he used the occasion to highlight major achievements under his Command, that is, the Lagos State Police Command.

These include foiled armed robbery incidents and arms recovered.

He became the 37th Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command on January 24, 2022.

According to him, the last 231 days were tasking.

Below are summary of the crime bursting achievements in the last two months in the state.

Giving a review, the police boss said from June 22nd to August 22, 2022, the Command arrested 35 armed robbery suspects and successfully foiled 37 armed robbery incidents, 13 armed robbery suspects died during encouters with the police, while eight armed robbery incidents occured in the state.

Also, 15 suspects were arrested for cultism while 5 cultism cases were incidented.

55 murder cases were incidented in the state, no murder or kidnap suspect was arrested.

The state recorded 8 suicide/attempted cases of suicide.

The police also recovered 32 arms and 78 ammunitions.

The Command also recovered 6 vehicles; four among them were removed from parks while one was snatched.

Three policemen were attacked in the state under the period reviewed.

CP Alabi used the opportunity to warn that under no circumstance should any civilian offer money to police either to secure bail or facilitate the performance of an officer’s responsibility.

The police boss who reiterated the age-long declaration that ‘bail is free’, reminded the public that anyone who offered bribe to the police was as guilty as the police officer who received the bribe.

“Nigerians like to buy their freedom because they have committed an offence. I wonder why a man would want to waste money bribing police to secure his freedom if he has not committed a crime,” The CP said.

The commissioner commended the commitment of officers and men of tactical units like the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, Intelligence Response Team, IRT, Anti-cultism and others.

The police bossi has warned the bad elements in the various squads to desist from demanding and collecting money from members of the public who came to them with crime-related problems.

He said information of some operatives demanding huge sums has reached him from members of the public who came to lodge one complaint or the other.

CP Alabi said that on such occasions, he disciplined such erring officers, adding that he would henceforth deal ruthlessly with any officer or rank and file caught indulging in such anti-service activities.

He commended crime reporters who helped him attain his modest achievements since he assumed office in the state seven months ago.
