The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity and recovered a locally made Beretta pistol and 9mm live ammunition in Mushin.
The arrests followed intelligence on cult activities in the area.
Police said one of the suspects, Irawo Moshod, allegedly identified himself as a former chairman of the Aiye Confraternity and made disclosures about the group’s activities, including alleged killings in Mushin and other parts of Lagos.
Acting on the information, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, recovered the firearm and ammunition at Idi-Oro, Mushin.
Three other suspects, Abayomi James, 29, Farouq Bankole, 28, and Steven Sunday, 19, were subsequently arrested at Aganran by Ojuwoye.
Police said the suspects admitted membership of the Aiye Confraternity and allegedly disclosed that the recovered firearm was obtained from a man identified as Rilwan, said to be a senior member of the group.
The suspects remain in custody and are assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members.
Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the VCRU operatives for their intelligence-driven operation and warned cultists and other criminal elements to desist from crime or face the full weight of the law.
