President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland.

Oba Sikiru Adetona, double pain -Tinubu
In a statement issued on Saturday night, President Tinubu described the revered Oba Sikiru Adetona as one of Nigeria’s most outstanding and foremost traditional rulers, who served with “dignity, panache, class, and an unmistakable sense of duty.”
The President noted that the news of the monarch’s death brought a double pain as it coincided with the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Oba Adetona was a towering natural ruler… who provided uncompromising leadership to his people,” the statement read.
President Tinubu recalled Oba Adetona’s over 65-year reign, which began at the age of 26, noting his contributions to progress, unity, and national stability, especially during periods of crisis.
“I enjoyed an excellent personal relationship with Kabiyesi… I found his company comforting, wisdom enriching, and candour empowering,” Tinubu stated.
The President praised the late monarch’s legacy in philanthropy, education, and governance, particularly through the School of Postgraduate and Research Studies in Governance at Olabisi Onabanjo University.
He extended condolences to the Adetona family, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Ogun State Government, and all sons and daughters of Ijebuland.
“May our departed Kabiyesi find eternal rest,” the President concluded.
Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, joined his ancestors on July 13, 2025, at the age of 91.
Oba Adetona ascended the throne in 1960, and under his reign, Ijebuland witnessed unparalleled cultural renaissance, infrastructural growth, and economic advancement.
He played significant role in elevating the Ojude Oba festival to global recognition, alongside his enduring commitment to education, health, and tradition, will remain a timeless legacy.
