The Lagos State Police Command has cleared Pastor Paul Adefarasin, the Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, following investigations into a viral video that allegedly showed him brandishing a gun-like object against another road user while driving in Lagos.

In an statement issued on Tuesday, September 17, 2025, the Police Command confirmed that the object in question was a stun gun and not a firearm.
The clarification came after Adefarasin voluntarily turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja for interrogation.
Police investigators confirmed that the cleric made a cautionary statement and cooperated fully with detectives. After thorough investigation, it was established that the device seen in the viral video was a prohibited anti-riot equipment; a stun gun, but not a lethal weapon.
The statement signed by SP. Abimbola Adebisi, the Command’s Public Relations Officer stated, “After a thorough investigation, including interrogation and a cautionary statement from Pastor Adefarasin, it was established that the object in question was a stun gun and not a lethal weapon or firearm. Consequent on our findings, the Lagos State Police Command has determined that there are no sufficient grounds to proceed with the matter. The case is hereby discontinued.”
Paul Adefarasin, “not above the law” – Former Lagos PRO
The case had drawn intense public attention after a short video clip surfaced in June, allegedly showing Pastor Adefarasin holding a gun-like object during a traffic incident. Social media users speculated that the cleric had brandished a firearm, with many calling for his arrest.
Last June, the former Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, had assured that the outcome of investigation on Adefarasin would be made public.
While briefing journalists on the matter, Hundeyin emphasised,“No one is above the law!”
According to the Police, Paul Adefarasin was granted administrative bail after the object was recovered and identified as a stun gun, but described the device as a prohibited anti-riot equipment, not a firearm and therefore did not amount to unlawful possession of a lethal weapon.
“What was recovered from him, the gun-like object seen in the viral video, is not a lethal weapon or firearm but a stun gun which is a prohibited anti-riot equipment,” Hundeyin explained.
The clarification effectively ended weeks of speculation surrounding the nature of the object and the pastor’s conduct in the video.
Pastor Adefarasin’s statement
Prior to turning himself in, Pastor Adefarasin had denied the allegations in a message to his congregation shared across his social media handles. He explained that the object he was seen holding in the viral video was not a firearm and insisted that he did not point it at anyone.
SP. Abimbola Adebisi stressed that the command remains dedicated to maintaining public trust:
“The Lagos State Police Command remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring public safety while maintaining transparency in all investigations.”
