The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies for the peaceful and orderly conduct of the Kano Bye-election held across designated constituencies in the state.

The Governor’s commendation was contained in a statement signed on Saturday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Governor Yusuf described the Kano Bye-election as a milestone in the democratic journey of the state, noting that the calm atmosphere recorded across polling units reflected the growing political maturity of the people and the effectiveness of security arrangements put in place.
Peaceful polls mark democratic milestone
According to the statement, the Kano Bye-election recorded peaceful voting across affected areas, particularly in Kano Municipal and Ungogo State Assembly Constituencies.
Governor Yusuf specifically appreciated residents of the two constituencies for their cooperation, discipline, and commitment to peaceful participation in the Kano Bye-election, stressing that their conduct helped consolidate democratic gains.
He noted that the calm and orderly process underscored the effectiveness of coordination between INEC and security agencies deployed for the Kano Bye-election.
Gov. Yusuf hails INEC, stakeholders for compliance
The Governor also lauded political parties and stakeholders, particularly the All Progressives Congress, APC, for adhering strictly to electoral rules and regulations throughout the Kano Bye-election.
“For the first time in recent history, we witnessed an election free of crisis, use of weapons and any form of manipulation in Kano. This development aligns with our Kano First Agenda. The era of killing, maiming and disenfranchising voters is over,” the Governor affirmed.
He added that the peaceful outcome of the Kano Bye-election demonstrates that Kano State is prepared to embrace issue-based politics anchored on dialogue, tolerance, and respect for democratic values.
Commitment to security, transparent future elections
Governor Yusuf further assured citizens and residents that his administration will continue to prioritise the security of lives and property across Kano State, irrespective of political or religious differences.
He reiterated his government’s resolve to work closely with electoral bodies and security agencies to ensure that future exercises build on the success recorded during the Kano Bye-election, maintaining transparency, credibility, and a violence-free process.
