He noted that Egbetokun made history as the first indigene of Ogun State to serve as Inspector-General of Police, adding that his tenure was marked by professionalism, institutional reforms and strengthened public confidence in policing.
Abiodun also acknowledged the former IGP’s role in improving security in Yewaland, particularly in addressing farmers–herders conflicts and safeguarding lives and property.

Chairman of YPDC, Prof. Rahamon Bello, also commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing a Yewa son as IGP, describing Egbetokun’s career as a testament to hard work and self-improvement.
Egbetokun reflects on values, service
Responding, Egbetokun attributed his professional success to the values instilled in him during his upbringing in Yewaland, including discipline, honesty, accountability and respect for the rule of law.
He recalled rejecting a N40,000 bribe early in his career when his salary was just N2,700, stressing that his mother’s guiding principle, “a good name is better than silver and gold” shaped his character.
He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunities he received throughout his career and pledged continued commitment to national development even in retirement.
