Again, 20-year-old female undergraduate student of University of Lagos, (Names withheld) has for the third time in court maintained that her lecturer, Dr. Samuel Obinna Ojogbo raped her.

This is the evidence of the first prosecution witness before Justice Oyindamola Ogala of the Lagos State High Court on Monday during further cross examination by the Defence Counsel, Demola-Bello, SAN.
At the continuation of trial, the defence counsel asked the alleged victim to identify a photograph if it was that of the alleged crime scene, but the witness said she could not identify it.
As the counsel tried to tender the picture, the trial judge said he could not put in the document since the alleged victim could not speak to it and that he could do so through another witness.
The senior counsel also asked her further questions regarding statement-taking at the Gender Unit Lagos Police Command, which she admitted she made and identified as 2nd September 2025.
She also admitted to making two statements at Bariga Police Station on 27th and 28th, August 2025.
The counsel tendered the statements before the court, the prosecution counsel did not object them.
The court admitted the documents as exhibits.
The defence also asked her about what she told the Police she was wearing.
The defence counsel asked, “At the station on the 28 August, you told them you were wearing a black trousers and a shirt, short sleeved multicoloured?
“You told the police at Bariga that you washed your leggings a weekend after? I can’t remember,?” the witness replied.
When exhibits B1 and B2 were shown to her and was asked to read from it, the alleged victim told the court, “I remember that I stated to the police that I washed my leggings a weekend after.”
Were those clothes returned to you? “It was returned to me.”
The defence counsel suggested to the alleged victim, “Those leggings would have contained evidence to this case if you had not washed them, you washed it to destroy evidence?
She responded, “No.”
Counsel queried her further, on why she didn’t bring her underwear to the Police?
She responded, “They didn’t ask for it?”
She further explained that on the 22nd August 2025, the doctor at the institution’s medical centre did not carry out additional test aside from a swab test and drugs prescription.
The witness maintained that she reported the matter to Dr. Abu, who called her Uncle.
Questioning the reasoning why she called Dr. Abu uncle, the witness told the court that she did so because he is a lecturer in the department.
The defence counsel asked, “Your friend and you had personal relationship with Dr. Abu?
She replied in the negative.
He suggested, “You are not a witness of truth, your call record showed you were talking with Dr. Abu on that day?
“No,” she responded.
He questioned her further, “You gave the police a picture of your call record on that day, is that correct?
“Yes I did.”
“You had contact with Dr. Abu twice”? I can’t remember who called first, she replied.
“You had his number on that day,?” the lawyer asked but the witness responded that the number was made available to everybody in class.
According to her, “The defendant pinned me down and raped me on that day.”
Recall the defendant was brought to court by the Lagos State Government on a two-count charge of rape and sexual assault.
Justice Ogala adjourned the matter till May 25 and June 24, 2026 for continuation of the trial.
