President Bola Tinubu has expressed delight over the successful rescue of the abducted students and teachers from Oriire community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, commending the military, the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Nigeria Police Force for securing their freedom after 56 days in captivity.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the security agencies for conducting a coordinated military and intelligence-led operation that led to the safe rescue of the victims, the arrest of eight suspected abductors, and the neutralisation of others without collateral damage.
Tinubu described the operation as a major relief for the affected families and the nation, while lamenting the trauma endured by the pupils, their teachers and their loved ones during the prolonged ordeal.
“I am profoundly happy that our security forces successfully rescued the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire, Ogbomoso in Oyo State today after a military, police and intelligence-driven operation that neutralised some of the terrorists that perpetrated the evil act and the arrest of eight of them,” the President said.
He added that the operation ended “the siege and standoff of over 50 days” and thanked members of the armed forces, intelligence agencies and the police for their professionalism and dedication.
President Tinubu also vowed that his administration would ensure justice for the rescued victims and the family of Mr. Oyedokun, who was reportedly murdered by the kidnappers.
The President commended the Oyo State Government for its cooperation with the Federal Government throughout the rescue efforts and urged the state to strengthen security around schools to prevent similar incidents.
He further directed emergency response agencies to work with the Oyo State Government to provide immediate medical care, psychosocial support and other relief assistance to the rescued pupils and teachers.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting Nigerians and sustaining coordinated security operations against criminal elements across the country.
Meanwhile, Onanuga, disclosed that eight of the attackers were arrested while others were killed.
He also disclosed that no ransom was paid and stating that their commander whom they demanded his release is still in custody.
Onanuga stated that those arrested are in the custody of the DSS.
