Professor Mahmood Yakubu has handed over the reins of his office to a National Commissioner Air Vice Marshall Ahmad Mu’azu (rtd) as his tenure came to an end on Monday.
The handover took place in a brief ceremony at the Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abuja where he said it will be inappropriate for him to remain in office beyond Monday.
Recently, President Muhammadu Buhari nominated Professor Yakubu for another five year tenure. He awaits the Senate’s confirmation.
Meanwhile, five National Commissioners tenures also came to end on Monday.
Professor Yakubu conducted the 2019 General Election and a raft of off season elections – the latest being the Edo and Ondo Governorship elections.
