This is actually not the best of times for Poultry farmers especially at the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja. This is not unconnected with the rising cost of price of feeds ingredients such as maize and soya.

Farmers said this development has resulted to serious burden on farmers in and around Abuja and threatened the survival of farms.
As a way out, the chairman Poultry Association of Nigeria, PAN FCT Chapter, had earlier approved a Price Advisory Committee whose responsibilities are to brainstorm and proffer recommendation in regard to suitable prices for poultry products such as broilers – live and dressed and eggs in the prevalent circumstances.
The Price Advisory Committee chaired by Dr. Oyewusi Olugbenga who double as Vice Chairman of PAN FCT Chapter has the following recommendations as approved by PAN FCT Chapter Executive Council;
1: Eggs – minimum of N1,250.00 per crate
2: Broiler – live weight – minimum of N900.00 per kilogram
3: Broiler – dressed weight – minimum of N1,200.00 per kilogram at farm gate prices.
The Committee strongly advised that, each member of PAN FCT Chapter should take into consideration the survival and sustainability of his/her farms and adhere to these recommendations by the committee.
According to the Committee, price review will be a continuous event subject to change in prices of ingredients upwardly or downwardly as the case may be.
