A 38-year-old driver, Sunday Okodo driving on a one-way lane in an attempt to escape arrest by traffic enforcement officers has knocked down a police inspector from a bridge into a canal.
But the good news as gathered by CASEFILEng.com is that the policeman is alive but sustained a fracture on his left hand.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at about 5:30p.m, when some Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, LASTMA, personnel backed up by the police on enforcement duty within the state were on enforcement duty.
Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, CSP. Muyiwa Adejobi disclosed that the driver was driving against the traffic along International Airport road when the incident happened.
He said, “The driver resisted arrest and while trying to escape, a police Inspector David Zapania was knocked down from the bridge and fell into a canal.
“The officer was rescued and rushed to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Center where he was attended to and discharged, but sustained fracture on his left hand.”
Further information has it that the driver, Sunday Okodo, 38, who resides at Alose Close, Bony Crescent Apapa, has been detained and his vehicle impounded.
The Commissioner of Police in the State Hakeem Odumosu, has sympathised with the policeman and restated his zero tolerance for gross violation of traffic laws and regulations in the state.
