Four commuters have lost their lives in an accident that happened on Tuesday between a tipper driver and taxi bus plying Erie Junction, Sakpoba Road axis in Benin City, Nigeria.

Eyewitnesses said the tipper driver was suspected to have lost control while heading in an opposite direction rammed into a moving white Vannet Bus, also leaving many passengers of the vehicle injured.

Bodies of commuting passengers who died in the incident have been deposited in the Central morgue and others are now at Stella Obasanjo hospital respectively according to the source.

Onlookers and sympathisers flooded the scene in attempts to rescue the survivors, as blood stains and relics of the badly damaged vehicle littered the scene of the incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Kontongs Bello, said four persons lost their lives to the accident, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries and are now receiving treatments.

He also confirmed the arrest of the tipper driver who he noted, rammed into a white Vannet Bus causing a halt to traffic flow.

However, some eyewitnesses said they counted 10 people who died in the accident.

Prior to this incident, an accident was said to have occurred at St. Saviour junction before the this one at Erie but no life was reportedly lost.

Road users and motorists face difficult times accessing the axis owing largely to the twin accidents and the restive actions taken by a section of bus drivers plying the route.
