Members of the Plateau State House of Assembly have purportedly impeached the Speaker of the house, Rt. Hon. Ayuba Abok.

Mr. Yakubu Sanda representing Pengana Constituency, from Bassa local government area has been elected as the new speaker.

Eight members of the All Progressives Congress were escorted into the chambers early Thursday morning amidst tight security to carry out the impeachment process.

Lawmakers elected under the Platform of the Peoples Democratic Party were prevented from gaining entry into the house complex.

One member of the house, Hon. Philip Dasun who tried to oppose the impeachment process was allegedly harassed and beaten by his fellow lawmakers.

Security operatives deployed to the assembly complex harassed and seized the phones of the Silverbird News 24 correspondent who was at the Assembly complex to report the impeachment process.
